The Barcelona-Sitges International Vintage Car Rally reaches the town on Sunday
The 68th edition of the Barcelona-Sitges International Vintage Car Rally is being held on Sunday, 1 March. The event is one of the most eagerly awaited occasions on the motor calendar and an unmissable weekend for collectors and enthusiasts of historical vehicles. Cars manufactured prior to 1928 and motorcycles manufactured before 1938 will be setting off from Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona at 10.30 am and travelling along the Costes del Garraf coastal road before reaching La Fragata (Sitges) around 2 pm.
This year’s edition reintroduces the traditional stop and aperitif at Port de Sitges – Aiguadolç, where vehicles should be arriving around 12.30 pm, extending the itinerary and offering a privileged new scenario by the Mediterranean sea. The prospect of driving along the Garraf coastal road in an unparalleled setting between the mountains and the Mediterranean is one of the singular qualities of the rally, a unique event and the reason that most of the participants are keen to repeat the experience every year.
The event not only brings together historical vehicles that have been perfectly conserved, but also transcends borders. Year after year, participants from different places in the Spanish state and abroad take part in this event, boosting the international dimension of the Rally and its appeal. The selection of these precious motor vehicles guarantees that each edition features unique cars and motorcycles, reflecting the efforts of their owners to keep the essence of the early years of motoring alive.
One of the most iconic and unique aspects of the Barcelona-Sitges International Vintage Car Rally is the clothing worn by participants. Drivers and their companions wear period clothing to match the year of manufacture of their vehicle, accurately and elegantly recreating the atmosphere of the early 20th century.
Foment de Sitges, the organisers of the event in collaboration with the Councillor’s Office for Tourism at Sitges Town Council and Barcelona City Council, thus strengthens an event that is not just a procession of historical cars, but also an authentic celebration of motoring culture combining passion and tradition.
