Sitges hosts the exhibition “Napkin Art: through the local area, from cuisine to art”
Sitges is offering “Tovallons d’art: a través del territori, de la cuina a l’art” [Napkin Art: through the local area, from cuisine to art] from 14 to 28 November, a display that unites gastronomy, the local area and artistic expression. Supported by Sitges Town Council through its Councillor’s Office for Tourism, the exhibition highlights the cultural and emotional value of the kitchen as a space for meeting and creative dialogue, and forms part of the activities for Catalonia, World Region of Gastronomy 2025.
The display presents works by different artists from Catalonia and elsewhere, using restaurant napkins. The creators have turned this everyday item into a canvas for all of their creativity, to produce a unique artistic piece that highlights the country’s gastronomic identity.
The exhibition presents restaurants from almost 40 counties in Catalonia. In Sitges, the restaurants taking part are La Nansa, La Salseta and La Sitja, and the artists Blanca Benítez, Manuel Corrales and Roby have created works inspired by the connection between gastronomy and the local area. The town’s participation with these three proposals helps to strengthen the image of Sitges as a town open to culture, innovation and local talent. In this respect, the Councillor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, noted that “Napkin Art is an excellent example of how art and gastronomy can join forces to explain our identity. Sitges has always opted for creativity to project our cultural and gastronomic heritage beyond the municipality, and initiatives such as this help us to continue putting the town on the map for culture and quality tourism”.
Napkin Art and Malvasia de Sitges
As part of the exhibition there’s a special space at the Mercat Vell on Thursday, 27 November, at 7 pm. This session offers a pairing that unites three Malvasia de Sitges wines with three napkins painted by local artists. This session aims to highlight the experience between art and wine and will be organised by the Celler de l’Hospital – CIM, rounding off the exhibition. Capacity is limited and tickets can be acquired using this link.
Napkin Art is being presented in Sitges, but the idea is for the project to make its way around the counties of Catalonia in 2026 and 2027. It is on at the Mercat Vell from 14 to 28 November.
