The beaches of Les Botigues de Sitges, Garraf, Aiguadolç, Balmins, Sant Sebastià, Ribera, Estanyol, La Barra and Terramar have earned top scores and granted an Excellent rating from the Catalan Water Agency (ACA), the body in charge of assessing water quality. In the bathing season, these checks are conducted twice a month, and the initial result from 16 June yielded an Excellent rating for all the beaches of Sitges. In addition to these periodic checks of the water quality on the beaches of Sitges, the nine blue flags have been renewed for this season, making Sitges the town in Catalonia with the most blue flags. 

The ACA is in charge of managing bathing water quality in accordance with the criteria in European Directive 2006/7/EC, which stipulates checks at least every 15 days until 30 September. The ACA conducts these checks by applying the bathing water quality surveillance and information protocol via periodic environmental inspections and bathing water samples that are analysed in the Public Health laboratories of the Department of Health to assess their microbiological quality, in accordance with Directive 2006/7/EC and Royal Decree 1321/2007 on bathing water quality management.
